Small reservoir restoration:
Green Infrastructures to enHance rural area resilience To Climate ChaNGe
The Project
SIGHTING began in October 2023. The project investigates the vital role of hillside small reservoirs in the sustainable management of water resources, a critical issue in an era marked by climate change and water scarcity.
Small reservoirs provide a unique opportunity to enhance the resilience of agricultural systems and hilly landscapes, supporting food security, promoting local production, and promoting local production, and preserving essential ecosystem services.
By utilising advanced modelling tools, targeted surveys, and satellite data, our aim is to develop and optimise protocols for managing water and sediments, ensuring the long-term availability and quality of water.
This will incorporate small reservoirs into resilient water resource management strategies.
Nestled among hills, these quiet reservoirs hold the future of farming in every drop.
Reviving small reservoirs increases biodiversity, improves soil retention, and enhances agricultural productivity.
Case Studies

The Spina Reservoir
The Spina catchment (2.31 km²) in Marsciano (PG), Italy, is mainly agricultural and ranges from 290.9 to 212.7 m a.s.l., with a 9.47% average slope.

The Martin Pescatore Reservoir
The Martin Pescatore dam in Pieve Caina, Marsciano (PG), Italy, drains a 0.33 km² catchment ranging from 219 to 346 m a.s.l. with a 20% average slope.

The San Giovanni Reservoir
The San Giovanni reservoir, located in Città di Castello (PG),
Italy, has a capacity of 90,000 m³ and is fedby
the Regnano stream.
